Mom knows that when the dessert is good, no one cares if it's "meatloaf again".
1-2-3-4 Cake
From Thelma Hobbs, Mike's Grandma
- written exactly as it was told to me.
1 cup milk
2 cups sugar
3 cups flour
4 eggs
1/2 cup butter
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon salt
Mix all ingredients, pour into pan(s)
Bake at 350 degrees till a knife inserted comes out clean.
Shirley's Strawberry Pie
(My Mom)
1 cup sugar
3 tablespoons strawberry flavored gelatin
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup water
2 cups strawberries- washed and hulled
1 cooked pie shell
In a medium saucepan, mix all dry ingredients.
Add water
Cook over medium heat till thick, stirring constantly.
Quickly stir in berries.
Fill pie shell and chill,
serve with whipped cream.

Devonshire Cream
Whipping Cream
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 teaspoons powdered sugar
Mix all & chill.
Beat to soft peaks.
Serve over fruit, or fruit pie.

Lena Azlin's Chocolate Gravy
(My Mom's Mom)
2 cups water
2/3 cup sugar
1 cup Pet milk
2 tablespoons cocoa
1/2 cup flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
a pinch of salt
Boil water in skillet
Add all other ingredients and stir till thick.
Serve with hot biscuits and butter.

Cream Pie
1/3 cup flour or 1/4 cup cornstarch
2/3 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups scalded milk
3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
one 9 inch pie shell, baked and cooled
In a generous saucepan, mix flour, sugar and salt.
Add milk.
Cook over moderate heat, stirring constantly, till mixture thickens and boils.
Cook 2 minutes, remove from heat.
Add a little to the egg yolks, stir, and add to what's in the saucepan.
Cook 1 minute, stirring constantly.
Add butter and vanilla, let cool a bit.
Pour into pie shell.
What about those egg whites?
Make a merinque with the egg whites and 6 tablespoons sugar, and a pinch of salt.
Spread evenly over pie, and bake at 350 degrees 12 to 15 minutes to brown.
Variations
Bannana: Slice 3 bannanas into shell, add filling.
Coconut: Add 1 cup shredded coconut to filling, sprinkle coconut over meringue befroe browning.
Chocolate: Use 1 cup of sugar, add 2 one ounce squares melted unsweetened chocolate to the milk.
{Don't have a rolling pin? Use a plastic 1 liter soda bottle filled with ice water. And don't forget the cap.}

Mississippi Mud Cake
4 eggs
2 cups sugar
2 sticks melted butter
1 1/2 cups sifted flour
1/3 cup cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup coconut
1 to 2 cups chopped pecans
Beat eggs and sugar until thick.
Mix melted butter,flour, cocoa, vanilla, coconut and nuts,
Add to eggs and sugar.
Pour into greased and floured 13x9 pan.
Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
Mud Cake Frosting
1 jar marshmellow creme
1 stick melted butter
6 tablespoons milk
1/3 cup cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 box powdered sugar
2 cups chopped pecans
Spread the marshmellow creme on top of cake.
Mix everything but the nuts, spread on top of marshmellow creme.
Finally, sprinkle with nuts.

Carrot Cake
1 1/4 cups corn oil
2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
4 eggs
3 cups grated carrots
1 cup chopped pecans
Beat together oil and sugar
In a seperate bowl, sift together all dry ingredients.
Alternating with the eggs one at a time, add the dry mixture to the oil/sugar.
Add the carrots and pecans, mix well.
Pour into a greased, floured bundt pan,bake 70 minutes at 350 degrees.
Carrot Cake Icing
2 sticks warm butter
one 8 ounce block of cream cheese
1 pound powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
A pinch of salt
Cream together butter and cream cheese.
Add powdered sugar blend till smooth.
Add the vanilla extract and salt, beat until smooth.
More or less pour, dribble or spread on cake.

Ice Cream
1 Ice cream freezer
"freezer" is the bucket looking thing with a crank on it,
"Freezer" is the one on top of the refrigerator

6 eggs
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cans Pet milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
Enough milk to fill freezer
Mix everything , empty into freezer canister.
Add enough milk to bring to fill line, cover, place canister in freezer.
Add ice, alternating with rock salt.
Commence cranking, or, if you're lucky,
plug it in for 20 minutes, till thick.
Remove canister from freezer, rinse salt off the outside.
Place cannister in Freezer for 15 minutes to settle.

Shortbread
1 cup butter at room temperature
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
Heat oven to 350 degrees
Cream butter and sugar till fluffy, add vanilla.
Sift flour, cornstarch, salt, add to butter.
Beat till well blended, but don't overwork
Flour hands and pat into pie pan, prick with a fork.
Sprinkle with sugar.
Score the top into wedges
{score means to draw lines in it with a knife,
but don't cut all the way through}
Bake 35 to 40 minutes, until golden.
Makes a lotta big 'ol "cookies" to share with friends.
